Supreme’s latest drop features an iconic photo of NYC skateboarding legend – Harold Hunter which was shot by Charlie Samuels back in 1989. We caught up with Charlie and asked for a little backstory behind the photo, here’s what he had to say.

Summer 1989 – “That shot of the legendary Harold Hunter was probably from a Thrasher magazine shoot but at that point we were having so much fun skating around the city with all the Skate NYC (a skate shop off Tompkins Square) crew of about 6-8 of us that it wasn’t about Thrasher anymore. It was about seeing how much NYC skating we could document on film. At that point in the day we had run out of light downtown so we decided to skate and shoot where the lights are — in Times Square and Rockefeller Center. I gave Harold my corduroy Coca-Cola hat, slapped a flash on my camera to balance the lights in the background and everyone just skated wherever they wanted – basically a Times Square skate jam. That shot was snapped in the exact middle of Times Square. I remember when I got the film back that I didn’t really remember taking that frame, there was so much chaos that I was just aiming my camera at everyone and pushing the button whenever I saw someone do a trick then allowing the flash to recycle. It ended up being a very simple and graphic iconic shot of a collaboration between Harold and I.” – Charlie Samuels
