The KCDC Video: Dan Carriero (2012)

The KCDC video is definitely one of our 2012 favorites so far. Quartersnacks posted some of the vid back in early March embedding parts from Rob Gonyon, Derick Ziemkiewicz, Danny Falla and Billy McFeely. Well, just a few days ago Dan Carriero’s part recently surfaced and it’s a must see, especially if you’re into transition. We embedded it below but we hope you purchase the DVD  (only $8) purchase it online or head over to the KCDC Summer Store at Pilgrim Surf Shop (68 N3rd St., Brooklyn).

NYSB On NYTimes.com – “Skate Old or Die” (2012)

The New York Times ran an article in their Style section last week titled “Skateboarding Past a Midlife Crisis” and hit Rick Sulz (NYSB Founder) up for his opinion in their Room for Debate section. The original article got some flak but check Rick’s opinion on the subject titled “Skate Old or Die“.

Event Recap: King Of Queens (2012)

Perfect weather in an amazing park with skaters from the 5 boroughs and beyond- the 2nd Annual King of Queens contest went off! Skateboarding never stops progressing which made it even harder for the judges to pick a top 5 this year. No matter how many sick things go down at any given spot there will always be someone to take it one step further and this past weekend at the Astoria Skate Plaza was no exception. In the end it was TJ Macchonchie who was crowned the King of Queens and went home with $500 cash and product from Volcom, Nike and Redbull. Shout out to everyone who came out and skated and the sponsors for making it happen(5boro, Volcom, Nike, Redbull and Belief)

Top 5:
1- TJ Macchonchie
2- Chris Anderson
3- Doogie
4- Andre Beverly
5- Lil Chris

See you at the Battle for the Bronx next Saturday May 19th.

Sean Smith’s Documentary On NYC Skateboarding (2012)

Sean Smith made  a documentary focusing on the skateboarding community in New York City and how it has evolved and improved titled “Skateboarding In The City That Never Sleeps“. Through interviews with shop and company owners, parks department members, contractors and developers, and local skaters, he demonstrates how positive involvement, by both the city and the skaters themselves, has impacted skateboarding in our communities. The doc looks back at skateboarding in New York City in the 90′s and how it provide a basis of comparison to what is happening now. The current state of affairs is one in which constant collaboration brings high profile contests right into the five boroughs, and the city is actively involved in building safe places for all ages to enjoy.

Sean is premiering “Skateboarding In The City That Never Sleeps” tonight (10PM) at Epstein’s. Check the flyer below for details.
