As a photographer, I’m always on my feet and as much as I love a good skate shoe, walking around in them all day isn’t comfortable. I’m hoping to talk more about the shoes we wear when we aren’t on our skateboards, but that are made by skateboard companies or are connected to skating – so bear with me!

At any given photoshoot, I’m on my feet anywhere from 3-8 hours and sometimes longer, so I need shoes that are comfortable and light.

I’ve been curious about the Etnies Scout since the first time I saw them a few years back at Agenda (back when they still were coming to NYC – but that’s a whole other story!) I recently got a pair of Scout Yarn Bombs; Etnies foray into knitted sneakers. I’ve got to say, they’re pretty damn comfortable. There’s zero break-in, I mean, they’re knitted upper/toecap, so there’s none of the squishing of ones foot if you have wide feet (guilty!). The styling is pretty classic and on-trend (ugh, I hate using terms like that!). The knit is pretty on point, not over the top and ornate. The sole is AMAZING – light and cushioned, they also have gum inserts/panels on the soles for better traction. All in all, I am very happy with the Scout YB’s, they sorta feel like a sock with a sole on them. You can prolly cruise around on your cruiser with them, but don’t Ollie in them – just a FYI.

I give them a 8 out 10 for comfort, a 7 for style, 8 for durability (non skate activity that is!) 9 for weight (you can toss them in your bag and wouldn’t feel them in there – they’re light as fck!) My only regret is waiting so long to get a pair (wink wink Etnies?!?) The Etnies Scout YB’s retail for about $69.99 and come in three color ways, Black/White Gum, White/Gum and Navy/White/Gum.
