Daniel Campo has published a book titled “The Accidental Playground” which tells the story of several uses of the abandoned Brooklyn waterfront in the early 2000’s. Most interesting is the history of the diy skateboard spot named “The Slab”. This spot consisted of a volcano, a gnarly quarterpipe and some other stuff which can be seen in New York skate photos (embedded below) and videos circulating in the early 2000’s. It’s a great read if you’re into New York skateboarding history… in fact KCDC originally opened up in Williamsburg because of this spot. You can pickup a copy at your local bookstore or on Amazon.com.
