Last night New York’s iconic bar – Max Fish shut its doors to the LES for a final time due to rent increase. Since it opened in 1989, the bar has been a staple of Lower East Side skate & art culture and a go to for anyone in the LES looking to grab some cheap drinks or a game of pool. Unlike most bars in New York City Max Fish was brightly lit and saturated in color as it displayed countless amounts of artwork in every nook and cranny. What made Max Fish special to us was it’s connection to the skateboarding community here in NYC. On any given night you could drop in and run into someone you know or someone you know of from skateboarding and it hosted countless skate event after parties. Skate videos would repeatedly play and best of all skateboarders like Mark & Tino Razo would be your bartenders.

Max Fish is leaving the LES (like many other great NYC bars) but is not gone for good as it’s relocating to Williamsburg Brooklyn and is planning to reopen this Fall. We wish Uli and the rest of the Max Fish family the best and can’t wait to see how the new location turns out. Peep the photos below shot during Max Fish’s final days down on the Lower East Side, NYC.
